The high-tech industry has claim a major role in Taiwan’s economic restructuring and growth after 1996. Technological research and development efforts have gained greater and greater support from both government and business. In the 21 century, Taiwan will surely enter the phase of knowledge-based economy.

Dynamic technology change, short product life cycle, and incessant innovation characterize the knowledge-based economy. Our society needs managers equipped with technological expertise, global vision, and managerial skills to meet the challenges of this new age. The Graduate institute of Technology & Innovation Management (TIM) in college of commerce at National Chengchi University was founded in 1994 to prepare the MBAs’ for those emerging needs. Subsequently, TIM established a Ph.D program in July 1998, and started the EMBA program in 2000 for the top managers of high-tech industry. In 2002, the TIM spun-off Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP) began to offer MBA program specialized in intellectual property management.

Courses at TIM are divided into three distinct layers. They are: basic business, functional management, and technology & innovation management. Technology & innovation management is further divided into four sub-fields, including technology management, innovation management, high-tech business management, as well as technological environment and policies.

As a leading institute of its kind in Taiwan, TIM has built up academic cooperation relationships with National Yang-Ming University (Taiwan), Peking University (Mainland China), University of Washington and George Washington University (USA). TIM is also expected to establish the Asia Entrepreneurial Development Center (AEDC) in cooperation with MIT, National Tsing Hua University and National Taiwan University in the near future.
